Direct Access

Cannon Chambers offers clients a complete legal service in relation to tax law including initial advice, corresponding with HMRC, tax appeals, criminal tax and fraud investigations, tax judicial reviews and defending you in court or tribunal.

Direct Access

Instruct an experienced tax barrister without also instructing a solicitor or accountant.

We can file proceedings or other applications on your behalf with the court, or take other formal steps in court or other proceedings.

We will only take on direct access cases if it is in your best interests, and in the interests of justice. If support from a solicitor or accountant is more appropriate, we will always advise you of the best course of action.

In order to be considered for direct access, you will need to organise all the relevant paperwork and evidence yourself and be able to explain the basics of your case to a barrister.

In some cases, it may be advisable to use the Public Access Legal Support service (PALS) – a specialised paralegal resource designed for barristers and clients who work together within the framework of the public access scheme.

Work that is covered by the legal aid scheme is not permitted under the public access scheme.

Cannon Chambers offers clients a complete legal service in relation to tax law including:

  • Initial advice
  • Corresponding with HMRC
  • Tax appeals
  • Criminal tax and fraud investigations
  • Tax judicial reviews
  • Defending you in court or tribunal
